Connetquot High School, based in Bohemia, is home to the Thunderbirds—a program built on tradition, resilience, and a fierce competitive spirit in Suffolk County’s Section XI Division I. With a student body of nearly 2,000 and a community that rallies behind its athletes, Connetquot football is known for producing tough, disciplined teams and memorable Friday night lights.

2024 Season Review

The 2024 Thunderbirds battled through a challenging Division I schedule, finishing with a 5-5 overall record and earning a playoff berth. Connetquot’s season was highlighted by a thrilling 28-27 victory over Walt Whitman and a dominant 41-14 win against Riverhead. The Thunderbirds also posted strong performances against Sachem North and Central Islip, demonstrating their ability to compete with any team in the division.

Despite setbacks against powerhouses like William Floyd and Longwood, Connetquot showed grit and improvement as the season progressed. In the playoffs, the Thunderbirds faced a tough matchup and ultimately bowed out in the quarterfinals, but not before showcasing the depth and determination of their roster.

Program Legacy and Culture

Connetquot football boasts a proud legacy, including a Suffolk County championship in 2008 and multiple playoff appearances over the past decade.

The program is built on a foundation of hard work, accountability, and community involvement, with coaches emphasizing both athletic and personal growth.

The Thunderbirds’ culture is defined by strong rivalries, especially with neighboring Sachem schools, and a tradition of alumni returning to support the next generation.

The program’s impact extends beyond the gridiron, with players participating in local service projects and youth mentorship. Connetquot’s athletic facilities and school spirit make every home game a community event.
