Riverhead serves approximately 33,000 residents and 1,800 students, competing in Section XI Division II. The Blue Waves are known for their strong athletic programs and community support.

Riverhead High School, located in the heart of eastern Suffolk County, is recognized for its strong academic programs, commitment to diversity, and dedication to preparing students for success in college, careers, and civic life. With an enrollment of approximately 1,700 students, Riverhead offers a comprehensive curriculum, including Advanced Placement (AP), honors, and dual-enrollment courses, as well as a variety of enrichment and extracurricular opportunities.

2024–2025 Academic Year Highlights

The 2024–2025 school year saw Riverhead High School celebrate a record number of AP Scholars and students earning the New York State Seal of Biliteracy. Students excelled in the Science Research program, DECA business competitions, and the school’s award-winning music, theater, and visual arts programs. The Class of 2025 received acceptances to SUNY, CUNY, and a wide range of private and public colleges, with several students earning scholarships for academics, the arts, and athletics.
